Latest surveys show that the population of Scotland are bucking the trend of their nearest neighbours, with happiness levels continuing to rise.

Now, we’re not saying that legendary lyricist, Pharrell Williams, was specifically thinking of Scotland when he wrote this catchy tune, but the words are incredibly appropriate. That’s because recent figures show that the happiness levels of the Scottish population are continuing to rise.
In fact, the surveys show that Scotland is actually the happiest place to live in the United Kingdom. With an unbeatable work/life balance, and a treasure trove of incredible sights and attractions on your very doorstep, it’s not difficult to see why the people of Scotland are so happy.
To put it simply: we’re helping drive improvements to happiness for the entire UK, proving that there really is no place quite like Scotland. In an annual nationwide survey, Scots were asked how happy they were in their local communities on a sliding scale from very unhappy to very happy.
This excellent news comes off the back of a survey carried out at the start of the year by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The ONS survey found that Scotland was the only country in the UK to show an increase in factors including life satisfaction, feeling happy, and feeling worthwhile.
On the back of this survey, Silvia Manclossi, Head of Quality of Life Team at the ONS, said:
“We have seen some differences between countries, with Scotland driving improvements in personal well-being in the UK”.
It’s great to see that, as 2018 has continued, this impressive statistic has only grown, with a second survey by YouGov confirming exactly this. These surveys do an excellent job of highlighting Scotland as an excellent place to live, work and play.
YouGov’s survey also went on to highlight that Central Scotland was the happiest region in Scotland, followed very closely by the Highlands and Islands. Furthermore, it was pointed out that Scotland’s older generations were the ones who were the happiest age bracket in the country, proving you’re never too old to have a good time here!
